Student Exhibits at Worth Ryder Gallery, University of California, Berkeley

Last week, I attended the opening of two simultaneous student exhibits at Worth Ryder Gallery, University of California, Berkeley.  The gallery was affiliated with Art Practice Department and it showcased the many young talents, yearning to make marks on the art scenes.

The first show was a sculpture (aka installation) exhibit.  The topic for each artists were written on a piece of paper and put into the "oracle" bucket (see picture below) for drawings.  The often deceptively simple labels were to inspire and challenge the students to come up with their own take on these themes.

The second exhibit was called "Falling Below" which featured some smaller scaled, but no less forceful, installations (or multimedia projects).  They were very intriguing and even pretty to behold (artists might hate this but it was true).

Art Practice Department and Worth Ryder Gallery

I walked by the Worth Ryder Gallery of Art Practice Department at University of California, Berkeley recently and saw several interesting installations:











Searching my photo archives and I found several interesting photos I took in the hallways of the Art Practice Department in 2008.  They are quite amazing:

Recently I went to the Worth Ryder Gallery at Art Practice Department, University of California, Berkeley and saw a wonderful installation work by Pinar Yoldas and David J. Paulsen.

The work, made of solid composite materials, is quite fluid and has an unearthly lightness in it.  It changes forms and translucency with changing of the viewing angle and reminded me of a time capsule, skeleton of a vertebrate, or the evolution of entire universe. 

The title, Limbique, refers to limbic system, the name given to a group of structures of the brain that play a very important role in behavior and in particular, in various emotions such as aggression , the fear , the pleasure and the formation of memory.
