Arslan: In the Midst of a Single Breath - Dillon Gallery, New York

The best gallery show I saw in my September New York trip was "In the Midst of a Single Breath" by Russia born artist Arslan in Dillon Gallery, Chelsea. The exhibit was big, not only the amount of the canvases or the dimensions of them, rather the universe those paintings depicted.  His paintings there were uniformly dark and disturbing, but not gratuitously so.  Despite the obvious pains and struggles, his characters never lost their inner dignity.  His deep understanding of humanity and suffering needed no mannered sensationalism to carry forth.   He reveled his innermost feelings as only the bravest could.
