The first painting I completed in 2017, Origin, was an abstract gouache painting, with yellow dusts scattered on a very dark background — red and blue streaks intermingled with swirling thin layer of black paint. A striking contrast and beautiful presentation, perhaps depicting the beginning, or end of the time.

The inception of this piece was a strange one. It was inspired by my aged, multiple-layered, and simultaneously muddied and rich-hued palette. A small vision triggered a larger one.

New Installation in San Francisco Civic Plaza
San Francisco Civic Plaza has been consistently presenting some amazing or amusing public installations over the years, and the latest of such efforts are some traditional Chinese vases of various shapes and colors, with some Chinese writing, which seemed to me family surnames.
Pity I didn't see them at night when they were illuminated. In regardless of artistic values, these installations have brought joy to this plaza consistent and for that, we are grateful.

Air Fight Between a Hawk and a Seagull
Two days ago, I witnessed an amazing air fight between a hawk and a seagull.
It was some fierce cries in the air called my attention to those two majestic birds, chasing and circling each other, but didn't escalate into bloody pecking and clawing. The fearless seagull really faced off its much bigger opponent and perhaps, through her bravery, saved her chicks from the praying bird.
Hawing was nothing unusual, but the prey's fighting back was exciting - now the hawk chased the seagull, and then the seagull chased the hawk:
Quite an unusual sighting in an urban setting.

Three Gouache Paintings Completed in the New Year
Into 2017, while working on five oil paintings simultaneously, I decided to better utilize my time and took on work on paper again.
So far, I have completed three gouache paintings this year and they formed a very interesting complementing body of work to my oil paintings.
Origin, 10"x8", Gouache on Paper, 2017
Origin was an abstract painting, depicting the beginning, or end of the the time, featuring yellow dusts over background of black intermingled with layers of red and blue hues. It boasted a striking contrast and pleasing presentation.
Hope and Desire, 10"x8", Gouache on Paper, 2017
Hope and Desire was a geometric study of shades and shapes, representing hope, desire and the dash of them.
Cascades, 12"x8", Gouache on Paper, 2017
Cascades was inspired by Yosemite waterfalls, in the style of Impressionism. Completed just days ago, in February.
